How to Bill Anthem Across Different States

The most frustrating thing any Medical office can face is not knowing where to submit a medical claim. Not only are submitting medical claims stressful, but not knowing who to send them too can be a different level of stressful. If a patient has an Anthem plan from a specific state, for example Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, but your Medical office is located in state other than New York, do you bill Anthem in New York? The short answer is No.

The long answer is that when you’re submitting an Anthem claim you always send it to the rendering state! If your Medical office is located in Connecticut, but your patient has Empire BCBS, you still send all claims to Anthem of Connecticut because all claims are required to be sent to the rendering state’s Anthem department.
